Historical Forex market data for back testing a trading strategy

It is essential to test your Forex trading strategy on proper market data .

Smart Forex Tester only tests on ticks. We never interpolate or generate random ticks from e.g. M1 bars.

The easiest way to get quality test data is to use the Smart Forex Tester itself. Our Online Simulator gives you access to live price feed for 10 main pairs.  Check the User’s Guide how to save the collected ticks. Here is a sample one-day tick data file that was collected from the GBPUSD feed.

We also recommend high quality historical market data provided by TrueFX.com. Their archive has the real market quotes for 15 main currency pairs. The data is available as monthly .csv files. Their data is completely free (only  requires a free registration).

NOTE: when you download a monthly file from TrueFX, you will need to convert it to the Smart Forex Tester format. It’s very easy: in the Data Manager, just load the file and save it.

We do recommend splitting the monthly files into smaller ones – weekly files at most. Check the User’s Guide how to do that in the Data Manager.
